Labor Albo Prime Minister

I am shocked that Albo got in, although they are still counting votes until next week. Don’t know how much that will turn things around. At least we don’t have a hung or minority government.

Do you think Albo will make a better leader and what improvements do you hope to see? I think bigger spending on hospitals and child care is on the cards. Climate change is of course the white elephant in the room as it’s size is too big for anyone to tackle. We are all hoping green energy will save the day but I am very sceptical and if the science fraternity is correct we are all in a lot of trouble come 2030. I doubt any one Man or party can turn this around.

Your thoughts?

I tend to fully agree with you, qt. I too doubt that any one man or party can turn this around and as he hasn't got a huge majority, then the independents will hold the balance of power anyway. It will be hard trying to meld them all into going the same way, methinks. I had heard that Tanya Plibersek did not overly like our new PM but for her to say this morning when asked how the party would pay for all their promises in the election that 'they were great things to aspire to doing' won't go down too well. What was more of a surprise was the amount of independents who got in especially on what was termed as "Safe Seats". I think that Albo will work with the independents to get more action happening in regards to climate change, and in regards to renewable energy they will give direction towards renewable energy which Scomo was reluctant to do. The Solomon Island leaders had a meeting with Scomo before he went to the climate change meeting and they were quite rightly worried about rising sea levels etc.. Time will tell though, I'm thinking that the 2 party system is broken and that there should be more independents, but that's just me. I loved it when Scomo went over to WA and had those guys dressed up as cave men move into the picture beamed around Australia, I never liked Palmer. Ответить

Climate catastrophe on the whole of the earth, rising debts of countries trying to give their citizens all they demand in services, some of which I think are not necessary, and worldwide inflation, rising costs. Top that off with hideous evil wars and oppression raging on the planet not just in Ukraine.
I think you are correct E, what government can turn any of these things around?
Individuals can make a difference if we are all on the same path, eliminating our use of non renewables and non recyclables, ending waste of food and consumables, not using poisons on our lands, being peaceable with each other and caring for our neighbors and not just the ones next door. These principals would only just be a start to a better world.
I think it is somewhat shortsighted to think that a change of government in Australia is going to solve all the problems we have as we are all on the planet, a part of a human family. There isn't anything that any of us does that doesn't effect someone else.
The world is in a total mess, and we in Australia we are only a small part of the picture - all of us as individuals need to take responsibility starting with our own backyard, home, community and expand it to globally.
There are plenty of good things happening in Australia with individuals doing their part for with renewable and responsible behaviours like not using poison in their gardens which kills bees, reducing waste, composting and other personal changes. To see this is heartening and upbuilding.
As for governments making changes, Australians need to remember that most of our income comes from mining, agriculture production that we send overseas. We need to get smarter and have some industry here not just digging everything up or ruining our land to produce meat that we don't eat and grains that animals eat.

Gee you get to the GF, give it your best shot, but the other team comes out on top at the final whistle. Usually what happens is you go and shake the winners hand and let them enjoy the victory while you make nice on the field while you're secretly dying inside. Some in the coalition and their supporters seem to feel their entitlement is somehow divine and arent even gracious enough to have the manners to do that. They know why they lost but cant bring themselves to be gracious in defeat. All I can say is enjoy defeat you richly deserve it Ответить
